Recently, I went to see Golf Teaching Professional Jason Gilroy at The Putting Studio in the U.K..  This was just after a full 10-week layoff from golf in general.
Jason uses the SAM Puttlab (TM) Analysis System, which is the latest thing in golf technology for finding out exactly what is happening with your putting and chipping stroke. Many of the Tour pros now have one at home.

If you have never had this analysis done I highly recommend it for any golferr. It tells you more about your putting stroke in 5 minutes than you would find out in months, struggling on your own. If you are in the UK, Jason is 10 minutes away from Gatwick Airport. Contact him at http://www.gilroysgolf.com

Jason set me up on his equipment and then recorded the results of a series of putts. He then showed me, on screen, how all the different parameters of my stroke were working .

jason discovered my setup was a little open to the line of the putt, causing an out-to-in path and I was addressing the ball slightly off the toe of the putter.
Jason then made some adjustment suggestions; with regard to address position and shoulder alignment and then I hit another series of putts.

The left hand column of results below are my original stroke results and the right hand column results are with the adjustments.
The two vertical bars you see on some of the pages are for "Score" and "Consistency". Any value of 75% and over is equivalent to the
standard of the top 50% of Tour players.

The left hand
chart shows  I was setting up with the blade slightly open and with the ball slighty towards the toe of the clubface (a habit caused by the shaft of the putter blocking the view to the lower part of the putter blade).

A quick adjustment and the result is very acceptable.

FACE AT IMPACT

Original impact position is good, at 1/10th of a degree from perfect

Although the adjusted figure is 4/10th of a degree out, this is acceptable and as you can see the consistency has risen considerably.

Impact Putting Timing1

TIMING

Original timing is good and consistent. Exactly what is needed for accurate distance control.

After adjustment the impact timing (the bottom right graph) is a little erratic. This can be expected immediately after any changes.

This will settle down once the changes are ingrained.
Impact Putting Sweet spot1

PUTTER PATH AND SWEET SPOT CONTACT

Original path is 2.4* out-to-in and sweet spot contact error follows original address position error towards the toe of the club

Slight inconsistencey with new backswing path, which I suppose is to be expected for a while.

Sweet spot contact much improved, with improved consistency.
Impact Putting rotation1

CLUBFACE ROTATION

Slightly excessive rotation during original stroke, but fortubately my face angle at impact was good enough to negate this.

After adjustment, much improved, with better consistency.
Impact Putting Rise angle1

RISE ANGLE

Improved rise angle after adjustment.

This promotes a slightly better "roll" on the ball.
Impact Putting Summary1 SUMMARY

As you can see from the final line of this chart, there was a small overall improvement of 3% from 77.3% to 80.3%.

Note that any figure over 75% is equivalent to a standard of putting stroke that is in the top 50% of Tour Pros.

Therefore, after a 10- week layoff, Impact Putting has performed considerably well. In fact better than 50% of the players on Tour.

I would expect any of my students to do as well, if not better, than these results.

And you can do this too....with a bit of help...
